How to Choose the Right Lenses for Your Asian Fit Eyewear

You take great care when choosing frames for your Asian Fit eyeglasses to ensure they offer the style and comfort that you want. If you’re like most people, though, you may not give much thought to the lenses you select.  We think you should start thinking more about your lenses, which is why Kaioptics offers three different lens solutions to accommodate everyone’s eyewear needs.

It used to be that the only options you had in lenses was adding anti-scratch or anti-reflective coating and adding tint for sunglasses. Nowadays, there are more eyeglass lens options available to you. If you spend much time looking at mobile devices or a computer, you may want to choose blue-light-blocking lenses (also known as blue blockers)  the next time you order a pair of Asian Fit eyeglasses.

Why You Should Consider Blue Block Lenses

Taking care of your eyes is important and that means that it’s vital that you do everything you can to support your retina health. You probably already know this. What you might not know, though, is that your day-to-day habits can impact whether you’re supporting your retina health or sabotaging it.

Blue light is a potential hazard to your retina health. High-energy visible (HEV) blue light is a light in the violet/blue range on the visible light spectrum.  Excessive exposure to blue light over time may increase the risk of macular degeneration; in some cases it could even lead to vision loss.

Excessive HEV blue light exposure over time can damage your retina.

When you are outside during the day, you are exposed to HEV blue light by the sun.  HEV blue light is what makes the sky seem blue. Exposure to natural sunlight isn’t really the big concern with blue light.*  The real problem with HEV blue light is that your light-sensitive retina simply aren’t all that efficient at blocking HEV blue light and today people are getting more and more exposure to blue light indoors.

The main indoor sources of blue light include fluorescent lights, televisions, computer screens, computer games, and mobile devices. Too much prolonged exposure to these devices over time can damage your retinas.

Eye doctors are seeing an increase in the number of patients who are exposed to blue-light-emitting devices for extended periods of time. Even more concerning is the proximity of users to their computers and smartphones.  The closer you are to a blue light device, the more intensely your retinas are exposed to blue light. Eyestrain is common with extended exposure to computer screens, games, and tablets, but the consequences down the road are even worse.

The truth is, no one knows for sure how much is too much when it comes to blue light exposure, but the risk of macular degeneration later in life is just too high a price to pay to take any chances.  That’s why Kaioptics now offers affordable lenses that block HEV blue light. Kaioptics blue blocker lenses protect your eyes from repeat access to televisions, computer monitors, smartphones, video games, tablets, and more.

Your blue blocker lenses from Kaioptics are incredibly resilient and will correct your vision so you can see clearly while still protecting your eyes from damaging blue light. They are also scratch resistant and offer UV protection.

Lens Options for People Not Heavily Exposed to HEV Blue Light

If you’re not a frequent computer or smartphone user, then you probably don’t need blue blocker lenses.  For you, we have a couple of different lens options to choose from: polycarbonate lenses or high-index lenses.

Polycarbonate Lenses

Our polycarbonate lenses are light and so strong that they’re virtually indestructible, which means your eyes are protected at all times.  Polycarbonate lenses are perfect for those with mild to moderate vision correction needs. They’re right for you even if you have a very active lifestyle.  These lenses are super-resilient and impact-resistant.

Kaioptics’ single-vision polycarbonate lenses come with built-in UV filters to protect your eyes from the sun’s harmful UV rays. These lenses are also anti-scratch and anti-reflective, which ensures your view is always crisp and clear.

High-Index Lenses

Kaioptics also offers high-index single-vision lenses.  These super-strong lenses correct your vision perfectly while protecting your eyes.  Polycarbonate lenses tend to be too heavy for those with strong prescriptions; high-index lenses are lightweight and fit beautifully in your Asian Fit frames.

High-index lenses come in two thicknesses:

  • 1.67 is recommended for sphere from 6.00 to 9.00
  • 1.74 is recommended for sphere 9.00 and up

Our high-index lenses are comfortable for everyday wear.  Plus, they come with the same anti-scratch and anti-reflective features that we include with all of our lenses.
